· Napoli FAQ ·

Naples International Airport (NAP) provides direct flights from major European hubs such as London, Paris, Amsterdam, and Zurich. Budget airlines like Ryanair, EasyJet, and Wizz Air also operate routes from numerous European cities. Be aware the airport is closed from 22:30 to 03:30 every day!

If direct flights aren’t available, traveling via Rome is a convenient option. The Leonardo Express connects Rome’s Fiumicino Airport to Roma Termini station, where high-speed trains to Naples depart. The high speed train journey to Naples takes a little over one hour.

No matter how you choose to get here, Napoli is ready to welcome you with open arms and authentic Italian hospitality!

  1. Alibus Shuttle
    • The Alibus is the most convenient and budget-friendly option. It connects the airport directly to Naples Central Station (Stazione Centrale) and Molo Beverello (the port) for just €5. Tickets can be purchased online, or at the vending machines, located on the ground floor of the arrivals area. Buses run every 20–30 minutes, and the journey to the city center takes about 15–25 minutes, depending on traffic.
    • Alibus operates in following times: From Airport (05:30-00:00), Port to Airport (05:30-23:30), Central Station to Airport (05:10 – 23:30)
  2. Taxi
    • Taxis are readily available outside the arrivals terminal. Look for the officially licensed white taxis with meters. There are fixed rates to certain parts of the city; for example, a trip to the city center costs around €20–25. Always confirm the fare with the driver before starting your journey!

Naples has a reliable network of metro lines, buses, trams, and funiculars to navigate the hilly areas. Tickets can be purchased at stations, tobacconists, or news-stands. Choose between hourly, daily, or weekly tickets for convenience.

Naples is a mix of flat and hilly terrain. The historic center, including areas like Spaccanapoli and Via Toledo, is mostly flat and easy to walk. However, many neighborhoods, such as Vomero, Posillipo, and parts of San Martino, are perched on hills, offering stunning views, but requiring uphill walks, stairs or funiculars to access.

🟢 Old Town (Centro Storico)

If it’s your first time visiting Naples, Centro Storico is a fantastic choice. As the historic heart of the city and the likely location of the playbox, you’ll be surrounded by iconic landmarks, vibrant streets, and incredible food. Staying here means you’ll have everything within walking distance, making it an ideal base for both exploring and playing.

🟢 Chiaia

Chiaia is a more upscale neighborhood near the seafront. It’s quieter, but has  plenty of cafes, boutique shops, and scenic views. A short ride gets you to the playbox area, but you’ll enjoy a more relaxed vibe here.

🟢 Vomero

For a peaceful escape, Vomero offers a hilltop location with stunning panoramic views. It’s a quieter neighborhood with excellent public transport connections to the rest of the city.

🟡 Around the Central Station

The area near Napoli Centrale is highly convenient for transport, especially if you’re arriving by train. However, it’s busier and more rough than other neighborhoods. Choose reputable accommodations here and be careful at night.

🟡 Spanish Quarter (Quartieri Spagnoli)

The Spanish Quarter is a mixed bag. While it has undergone improvements in recent years and offers a lively, authentic local experience, it can still feel a bit rough around the edges, especially at night. If you choose to stay here, stick to the busier, better-lit streets and be cautious when walking around after dark.

🔴 Places to Stay Away From

While Naples is full of charm, some areas are better avoided for safety or convenience:

  • Scampia
  • Secondigliano
  • San Giovanni a Teduccio

Napoli (Naples) is generally a safe place to explore and play, but as with any large city, it’s important to stay mindful of your surroundings.

Stick to well-populated and well-lit areas, especially in the evening; walk in groups if possible.

Keep your belongings secure, as pickpocketing can happen in crowded spots, and use a wrist strap with your phone for extra safety.

Napoli and its region are packed with interesting places to explore, including many you are likely to visit during #IngressMissionDay on Sunday 23rd March!
