Welcome to Geneva Anomaly 20.06.2026

Bonjour, Grüezi & Ciao!

Get ready for the Geneva Ingress Anomaly
on June 20th 2026!

Geneva Anomaly

For the Resistance, Geneva isn’t just a location, it’s the birthplace of the threat they’ve been fighting for more than a decade. XM was uncovered here, and now something at CERN suggests that XM is attempting to reassert influence on a scale we haven’t seen since the Niantic Project collapse.

Instruments pick up a weird XM surge, one that matches the dangerous patterns from the old Niantic Project files. XM might be reawakening. Resistance mission: Return to Geneva. Investigate. Contain. Prevent another outbreak!

Return to where it all began. Defend humanity from a new XM surge at the Anomaly in Geneva!

· Why visit Geneva? ·

Alpine scenery

Geneva sits on the shores of Lake Geneva with the Alps and Jura mountains surrounding it. On clear days you can even see Mont Blanc.

Between the lakeside promenades and the famous Jet d’Eau fountain, the views are spectacular and very distinctly Swiss.

Global science and diplomacy

Geneva is one of the world’s most important international hubs. It’s home to major institutions like the United Nations, CERN, and the International Committee of the Red Cross.

It’s a place where global diplomacy, humanitarian work, and groundbreaking science all meet.

Swiss chocolate

Geneva has a long tradition of artisan chocolatiers, including historic makers like Favarger, founded in Geneva in 1826. From elegant chocolate boutiques to beautifully crafted pralines and truffles, you’ll find some of the finest Swiss chocolate while wandering through the old streets and lakeside shopping areas. It’s an essential (and delicious) part of the Geneva experience. 🍫

You don’t want to miss this!

·Getting to Geneva·

Geneva Airport (GVA) is an international hub, the home of EasyJet and SWISS, with numerous affordable connections across Europe and beyond. The airport is directly connected to the Swiss rail network, with frequent trains from the airport station to Geneva Cornavin (the main train station) every 10-15 minutes.

The journey takes approximately 7 minutes, and regular regional tickets are sufficient — no special airport fare is required.

From Geneva Cornavin, the city center is easily accessible by public transport or on foot. Trams and buses from TPG run frequently throughout the city.

If you are coming from elsewhere in Switzerland or from France,  Geneva is very well connected by train. There are frequent direct services to Genève Cornavin from major cities such as Zurich, Lausanne, Bern and Basel, Paris and Lyon.

To buy tickets for train journeys in Switzerland you can use the official SBB website or app. Both offer excellent mobile apps with QR-code tickets. Swiss ticketing is generally straightforward: tickets are valid for a specific route and date, but not for a specific train, giving you flexibility if your plans change.

Buy your ticket at least one day before (online or via SBB App) to save money!

Tickets bought online are usually provided as a QR code in the app or as a PDF on your phone. You do not need to print them. Simply show the QR code to the ticket inspector when asked. Swiss train stations generally do not have platform gates, but ticket inspections are frequent and fines for traveling without a valid ticket are high.

Genève Cornavin station is located in the city center and offers easy connections to local buses, trams and regional trains. Trains in Switzerland are known for being punctual, clean and reliable.

To plan your route within Geneva or from surrounding areas, you may want to use the Citymapper app or the SBB app. Both provide excellent route planning that includes trains, trams and buses, and are often more user-friendly than Google Maps for public transport.

If you are coming from the European mainland by train, Geneva is easily accessible via international high-speed and regional connections from France, Italy and Germany. Tickets can be purchased directly through national rail operators or via Interrail. Trains have no strict luggage restrictions like planes, are more environmentally friendly, and arrive directly in the city center.

By Bus

The main long-distance coach companies serving Geneva are FlixBus and BlaBlaCar Bus. They operate frequent services to and from major cities in Switzerland and neighbouring countries such as France, Italy and Germany. Coaches serve Genève Gare Routière, which is located in the city centre close to the lake.

Geneva Airport is also well connected by coach services, mainly to destinations in France. Some routes stop directly at Genève Aéroport, while others connect via nearby French towns such as Annecy, Chamonix or Lyon.

Coach tickets are usually bound to a specific departure time. Some operators offer flexible ticket options or allow changes for a small fee, which can be useful when arriving by plane in case of flight delays, border controls or luggage collection taking longer than expected.

You do not need to print your tickets. A QR code on your phone is sufficient and accepted by all major coach operators.

To come to Geneva from mainland Europe, travelling by car is straightforward thanks to Switzerland’s central location and well-developed motorway network. Geneva can be reached easily from France, Italy and Germany.

If you are coming from France, Geneva is accessible via several major road routes, including from Lyon, Annecy and Chamonix. There are no border controls for passengers travelling within the Schengen area, but random customs checks may occur. This is also a convenient option if you are travelling with a dog.

If you are coming from Italy, you can reach Switzerland via the Gotthard Tunnel or other Alpine passes, depending on the season and traffic conditions. From Germany, the Swiss motorway network offers direct connections via Basel or Zurich.

Swiss motorways require a motorway vignette. You can buy a physical vignette or a digital e-vignette in advance or at the border for 40CHF. Once in Switzerland, motorway driving is generally smooth and well signposted.

Parking in Geneva is limited and can be expensive. Some hotels offer private parking, but many do not. Instead, they may provide or sell temporary parking permits for nearby residential zones. These permits must be displayed clearly in your car and are usually valid for a limited duration.

If you do not have parking at your accommodation and do not need your car during your stay, you may want to use one of the Park & Ride (P+R) facilities around Geneva. These are located on the main access routes to the city and are well connected to the city centre by tram or bus.

On-street parking is available throughout the city in designated zones. Blue zones allow free parking for a limited time using a parking disc, while white zones are paid and time-limited. Always check the signs carefully, as rules vary by area.

If you prefer pre-booked parking and cost is not an issue, there are several public and private parking garages in and around the city centre. Prices are relatively high, especially for full-day parking.

We do not recommend parking in the most central or lakeside areas unless necessary, as these are among the most expensive zones and often have strict time limits.

Information on electric vehicle charging in Geneva can be found on the official Canton of Geneva website

·Geneva FAQ ·

Staying in Geneva can be expensive, but there are still plenty of accommodation options available. The usual booking websites work well, and there is also a good selection of hotels, hostels and serviced apartments throughout the city.

Budget-conscious travellers should consider hostels or shared rooms, especially if travelling solo or in a small group. Hostel beds can be found from around €50 per night, while more affordable hotels usually start at around €130 per night.

Some Examples:

Stay KooooK Geneva City

Geneva Hostel

City Hostel Geneva

MEININGER Hotel Geneva

Hotel Central

🏕️ Camping de Genève – TCS: well-reviewed campsite right by the lake with pitches for tents, campervans and motorhomes, as well as basic facilities and easy public transport into town.

A nice bonus if you stay in Geneva itself: your accommodation will usually provide a free public transport pass for the duration of your stay. This pass covers buses, trams, trains within the Geneva area and even the lake boats.

If you cannot find something within your budget directly in Geneva or near the airport, looking along the main tram and train lines, or just across the French border, is often a good alternative. Nearby towns such as Ferney-Voltaire, Saint-Genis-Pouilly, Annemasse and Saint-Julien-en-Genevois offer more affordable accommodation options.

While most of the city is easily discovered by foot, we would let you know that the historic old town or Vieille Ville quarter has some steep stairs  to climb. Most of the other quarters are flatish and easy to reach.

Geneva has an excellent and easy-to-use public transportation network that includes trams, buses, trains, and even boat shuttles across the lake. The official Discovery Map might help you get around and find what you need.

Tickets can be purchased at machines at stops or through the official TPG or SBB Mobile apps. An 1 hour ticket costs you ~3 CHF, while a day ticket is about 10 CHF.
But many hotels in Geneva also provide guests with a free public transport pass for the duration of their stay.

Although Switzerland happens to be a landlocked country between Central, Western, and Southern Europe, it is not a member state of the EU. As a result, it doesn’t come under the EU Roaming Regulation!

Check with your provider if it gives you automatical roaming in Switzerland, otherwise the roaming costs might be very high!

other Possiblities:

eSIM: Many modern phones are able to handle an eSIM, which is form of SIM card that is embedded directly into a device as software installed. Theres many different operators, please ask in our chat or in your community to find one which suits you best! (recommended option if your provider doesnt offer swiss roaming)

local SIM card: just change the simcard of your phone theres lot of different option of providers in Switzerland. Usually you can buy them directly at the airport and use it directly in your phone or with a mobile hotspot.

If you stay across the border in France, Geneva is still very easy to reach. Trams, buses, and the Léman Express regional train connect nearby French towns such as Annemasse, Ferney-Voltaire, and Saint-Julien directly with Geneva.

In this case, you will need a cross-border ticket rather than the standard Geneva city ticket. These are part of the Léman Pass system, which allows travel between France and Switzerland using a single ticket across multiple transport networks. Tickets can be purchased from ticket machines, transport apps (such as TPG or SBB Mobile), or at train stations.

Yes. Geneva is widely considered one of the safest cities in Europe. Violent crime is rare, and both locals and visitors generally feel comfortable walking around the area during the day and evening.

As in any international destination, it’s wise to stay aware of your surroundings and keep an eye on your belongings, particularly in busy places such as train stations or public transport where pickpocketing can occasionally occur.

If you use common sense and standard travel precautions, you should have no trouble exploring Geneva and enjoying the event.

Here are some must-see places and activities in the city:

  • UN and Broken Chair – you can even visit the building if you book a guided tour
  • Jet d’eau  – the 140m high fountain the lake. You can get very close to it on foot, but you might need an umbrella
  • CERN – the place where the ingress game lore started and one of the largest and most renowned centers for fundamental physics research in the world (booking website)
  • Bains des Pâques – historic public bathing sport right in the city centre since 1872
  • Cathedral Saint Pierre in the historic old town quarter ( Vielle Ville) and Place Bourg-de-Four
  • English garden and botanical clock – urban parc at the lakeside with the beautiful flowerclock containing more than 6000 flowers
  • Parc des Bastions with the Mur des Réformateurs  – Key individuals, events and documents of the Protestant Reformation are depicted in up to 5m high statues and bas-reliefs of a 100m long wall.

There are many more interesting and beautiful places, you might even pass by some on the Mission Day.

For additional information please  visit the website of the Geneva tourist information.

Is that even a question? Yes, Geneva is an excellent place to play Ingress!
The city has a high density and number of portals, especially in historic and tourist areas like Vieille Ville, around the Rhône and at the lakeside and big parks.

You can hop on a tram or walk around everywhere to enjoy the scenery and the high density of portals nearly everywhere! Maybe you even scan one or two? You can even visit the CERN where the Ingress Lore has its origins.

And if you like more complicated to reach portals, the mountains around Geneva await your visit 😉.

Geneva has a reputation for being expensive, but it’s not that different from other anomaly locations agents have already traveled to.

Cities like Oslo, Cambridge and Gothenburg regularly rank among the most expensive places in Europe, and anomalies have successfully taken place there with agents traveling from around the world. Geneva sits in the same category of high-quality, high-cost European destinations.

The good news is that anomaly weekends don’t have to be expensive. Geneva is compact and well connected by public transport, which makes it easy to stay slightly outside the center or even just across the nearby French border where accommodation prices can be significantly lower.

Like many anomaly locations, costs can also be shared: agents often split hotel rooms, travel together, or coordinate meals. With a little planning, Geneva can be just as manageable as past anomaly destinations.

And what you get in return is a unique play environment: a beautiful lakeside setting, dense portal areas, one of Europe’s most international hubs and playing at the City where Ingress was born.
